# Approvals

> What a teammate asks about first, where it asks, and what happens if you don't answer.

## What it asks about

A teammate works freely on everyday reading, writing and updating. It asks a person first before:

* **Spending money**
* **Contacting someone new outside your company,** unless you named them or the job plainly needs them
* **Doing anything that can't be undone**

## Where it asks

It asks where the job is being talked about, so you answer without going anywhere:

* A job that came by **email** is asked about on that thread.
* Anything else goes to your **Chat** conversation with it, or your **Slack** direct message if you're using Slack, where its options are buttons.

Just reply. A yes runs exactly what it stopped to ask about, so what you approved is what happens. Open questions also show on its page on the dashboard.

## Who answers

The question goes to the person the work is for, among the people it works for. A colleague who isn't one of them can ask it for help, but can't approve what needs approval: it asks its own people instead.

## If nobody answers

It tells you what it will do if you don't reply, and comes back to the job when that time arrives. It doesn't wait forever, and it doesn't do the risky thing just because you were quiet.
